Parents Involvement

Watch our Introduction to the DOLFIN trial video

The DOLFIN trial has been co-developed with parents and our charity partner Bliss. This has included input to the design and ongoing running of the trial including: parent and Bliss co-application to NIHR, input to trial methodology, documents and materials, and participation at investigator meetings. Parents remain involved in the trial, and will continue to do so until the DOLFIN trial ends.

Heather, DOLFIN parent co-applicant, shares her involvement in the trial:

Participant Heather and her son looking happy and healthy.

"I took part in the original Dolphin trial with my (now 12 year old) son. I breastfed him throughout the trial and was asked to be a parent co-applicant for this nationwide trial. I've really enjoyed sharing my experience and advice, which has been sought at each part of the process. This has included providing a parent perspective on breastfeeding and providing the supplement, the timing of questionnaires, the parent/carer support required and how this can be given, as well as looking at ways to overcome specific challenges that came up during the original trial. I've been included in multi-disciplinary team meetings where all these things have been discussed and can see clearly how my perspective has been listened to and put into action."
