DOLFIN: Developmental Outcomes of Long-term Feed Supplementation in Neonates

Giving the supplement: breast, bottle and tube feeding

Watch our Introduction to the DOLFIN trial video

The DOLFIN supplement can be given with a baby's usual milk feed, whether they are breastfed, bottle-fed or receiving milk via a feeding tube. A range of parent support materials which show how to give the supplement are available including information leaflets, instruction videos and helpful links.

The Parent Information for Supplement Use Leaflet provides details on all the types of feeding and how the supplement can be given. If you have any questions about giving the supplement please do get in touch with the DOLFIN trial team or your local clinical team..

Breastfeeding

We have worked with parents, lactation experts, nurses, neonatologists and parents to make sure that the DOLFIN trial promotes and protects breastfeeding so that breastfeeding babies can take part. There are several ways to give the supplement to breastfeeding babies e.g., via syringe, teat, finger feeder or cup. Mothers will be able to choose which option works best for them.

Videos, leaflets, and links to help and support materials are available here.

Bottle-feeding & Feeding tube

The DOLFIN supplement can also be given to babies who are fed by bottle, nasogastric tube, or gastrostomy tube. Please watch our video below that shows how to make up the DOLFIN supplement for babies who are fed by bottle, nasogastric tube, or gastrostomy tube.
