Maternity care for women having a multiple birth

The birth of a baby is a major life-changing event. When more than one baby is expected and there is a multiple birth the needs of babies, mothers and partners may be complex and considerable. Using data from national surveys the report provides an overview of the care mothers of multiples receive during pregnancy, labour and birth and in the early months that follow. The main focus was on the experience and views of 401 women having a multiple pregnancy and giving birth to twins or triplets and comparisons are made with the experience of women having a single baby.

The analysis for the study was funded by the Multiple Births Foundation (MBF) http://www.multiplebirths.org.uk
