Abednego Nzyuko Masai BSc (Hon), MSc

Biography

Abednego Nzyuko Masai is a DPhil student in the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit (NPEU) and is supervised by Dr Joris Hemelaar and Professor Philippe Guérin. He is interested in the molecular epidemiology of infectious diseases, HIV/ART, and access to quality healthcare. Abednego's DPhil research explores the global molecular epidemiology of HIV-1 subtypes and recombinants between 1990 and 2022.

Before joining the NPEU, Abednego graduated with a BSc (Hon) in Medical Laboratory Science and Technology (University of Nairobi, Kenya) and a Master's degree in Public Health (Hacettepe University, Turkey). Abednego has worked in the clinical laboratory, monitoring patients' outcomes and as a public health specialist in international humanitarian response.
